Vermont’s historic resources enable us to make sense of our past,
which in turn help us understand our present,
and ultimately guide us in planning for our future.
Six years ago this year a national historic landmark received a new lease on life. The Grafton Congregational Church and Chapel, now known as the Grafton Brick Meeting House had fallen into major disrepair over the years, due to lack of funds. On the National Register of Historic Places, the building has long been valued for its unique architecture —a blend of Gothic Revival and Greek Revival styles—and was praised by 19th century architect Stanford White as “the finest example of post-Revolutionary New England church architecture anywhere.”
This national treasure and town landmark which has been on Main Street since 1833 needed saving. In 2017 a group of townspeople formed the Brick Meeting House committee to raise funds to restore the building. And raise funds they did. Over a period of years, the building was restored by local builders and historic renovation specialists.
Please join in by making a tax-deductible gift to the newly formed non-profit BMH Foundation whose mission is to preserve and bring new life to Grafton’s Brick Meeting House and to the community through cultural events, historic talks, performances, weddings, etc. Your support is important to continue to preserve this historic treasure. We can’t thank you enough.
